    FEPM

    FEPM rubber, also recognized by the designation TFE/P or by brand names such as Aflas® (from Asahi) and Viton Extreme (by Chemours), is a copolymer consisting of tetrafluoroethylene and propylene. It features a fluorine content of around 54%.

    FEPM is often preferred over FKM in steam and amine applications as it does not contain the VF2 monomer, the point of chemical attack. Viton® Extreme® offers superior ketone resistance than standard FKMs.

    In some respects, FEPM exhibits media compatibility properties similar to EPDM and FKM. The compression set resistance at high temperatures is inferior to standard FKM.

    Strengths & Limitations

    Temperature Resistance

    • Low temperatures around -5°C (up to -20°C for special types)
    • High temperatures up to +204°C

     

    Chemical & Aging Resistance

    Strengths

    • Resilient against oil-based fluids, including gasoline, petroleum, and kerosene
    • Effective resistance to mineral oils, fats, and greases
    • Durable when faced with vegetable oils, fats, and greases
    • Withstands hot water and steam up to 170°C
    • Resistant to sour gas (utilized in the oil and gas industry)

     

    Limitations

    • Less effective against aromatic oils at low temperatures
    • Not optimal with ASTM oil No. 3, and has issues with No. 2 & 4
